GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
ORGANIZED VISITS OF STUDENT GROUPS
On Thursday, May 9, and Friday, May 10, from 9:00 to 14:00, groups of students from high schools, primary schools and kindergartens from Thessaloniki and other prefectures are going to visit the Book Fair and participate in events especially designed for children and teenagers. It has been estimated that in these two mornings more than 2,000 students and teachers will have visited the Book Fair.
EVENTS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
On the afternoons of Thursday and Friday, as well as throughout the weekend, young and adult readers will have the opportunity to attend book presentations, meetings with authors and illustrators, theatrical, music and visual art events, workshops and other happenings organized by publishing houses and cultural institutions.
EVENTS FOR EDUCATORS AND PARENTS
Educators and parents will be given the chance to take part in a small range of events –meetings, workshops and discussions- organized by publishing houses and cultural bodies.
The French writer and illustrator Maïté Laboudigue with her Zouzoubook series, invited by the French Institute of Thessaloniki and Kokkini Klosti Books, as well as the German writer Ingo Siegner with his Der kleine Drache Kokonuss, (space) invited by the Goethe Institut Thessaloniki and Metaichmio Publications, are expecting younger and older readers to take part in various events and workshops along with them and will be signing copies of their books..

spiti | homeGroup exhibition: 25 illustrators present the concept of home
The exhibition spiti | home constitutes an initiative that has been conceived, organized, coordinated and curated by anOther story, a project on Children and Adolescents’ Literature. Originally, it was hosted in the premises of Myrtillo –Children’s and Adolescent Library of the Municipality of Athens (www.myrtillocafe.gr) and it took place from October 30 to December 02, 2018. Now the Book Fair visitors will have the opportunity to admire the ways in which illustrators have depicted this interesting concept. The exhibition is supported by the Athens 2018 World Book Capital project/ The City of Athens. Curator: Theodora Arabatzi, head of the anOther story project.
The Athens 2018 World Book Capital project is also supported by the following donors: Major Donor is the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. Gold donors are the John S. The Map with the Strange CreaturesMyths and Tales from the Spanish Speaking World
As the Spanish speaking countries are honored this year, a huge map will be created depicting fifteen countries as well as fifteen myths and tales whose heroes are strange creatures.
The map will include the following countries:
Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia, Guatemala, Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Honduras, Uruguay, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Chile.
Reading Corner“Books with few (or no) words!”
Throughout the entire Book Fair, a Reading Corner will be in full swing. This year the books that come under the spotlight are the ones that show that just few words are more than enough.
